WWE SmackDown Results:

Backstage, Jelly Roll runs into Randy Orton. The two exchange pleasantries.

L-A-KNIGHT, YEAH

Knight dumps on Seth Rollins, claiming he’s washed. Rollins couldn’t take Knight out on his own, so he got his goons to do it for him. Knight says he wants to hurt Rollins. Rollins doesn’t have to fear Knight to get his ass kicked. Paul Heyman inturupts. Heyman notes that he can see the future, and Knight doesn’t have one. Solo Sikoa and MFT walk out on the stage. Sikoa tells Heyman to leave, or they will put him through a table like they did last year. Heyman runs through the crowd.

Sikoa tells Knight to do the same. Knight starts to leave, but he turns around nd tells them to make him. Sikoa and his MFTs surround the ring. Someone slides a chair into the ring. It’s Jimmy Uso! Jimmy and Knight clear the ring. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis walks out on the stage and books a tag team match between them tonight.

Grade: C

This segment took way too long to get to the point. Knight is always fun on the mic, but we could have gotten to the tag main event by just having Aldis book it.

Alexa Bliss w/Charlotte Flair vs. Sol Ruca w/Zaria vs. Roxanne Perez w/Raquel Rodriguez vs. Kairi Sane w/Asuka

As the bell rings, everyone pairs off. Ruca gets a near fall after countering a head scissors from Bliss into a side slam. Sane breaks up the pin and sends Ruca out of the ring. Perez breaks up a dive attempt from Sane. Ruca surprises Sane and Perez with a springboard dropkick. Perez and Ruca roll out. Ruca takes both women out with a handspring moonsault over the top. Rodriguez tosses Zaria on the commentary desk and boots Asuka in the face. Flair tosses Rodriguez over the commentary desk. Back in the ring, Sane tries the InSANE Elbow, but Bliss gets her boots up. Bliss lands the Sister Abigail DDT for the win.

Winner- Alexa Bliss

Grade: B

This was a fun match that avoided extended periods of the competitors disappearing for minutes at a time for no real reason. The finish was a bit convoluted, but still enjoyable. Ruca looked great out there in what this writer believes was her first match on the main roster. Seeing Ruca hit a double Sol Snatcher never gets old.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits (c) vs. The Wyatt Sicks

Dawkins and Ford eventually clear the ring. After the break, Lumis and Gacy are working over Ford. Ford counters a superplex by Lumis into a powerbomb off the top. Ford and Dawkins hit the Doomsday Device on Gacy for a near fall. Ford lands the big splash off the top. Gacy distracts the referee while Rowen pulls Ford out of the ring. Ford tries another splash, Lumis rolls out of the way. Lumis and Gacy hit a double powerbomb on Ford for the win.

Winners and NEW WWE Tag Team Champions, The Wyatt Sicks!

Grade: C+

Why do the Wyatts want the tag team titles? Maybe if they wrapped this around Bo never getting to win the tag titles with his brother, and if Bo was actually in the match, that would make sense, maybe. Either way, this match was a perfectly fine one, with a terrible finish. Where does the tag team division go from here?

Jelly Roll

During Jelly Roll’s performance, Logan Paul interrupts and says the people don’t want to see celebrities invading WWE. Paul calls Jelly Roll an outsider. Jelly Roll says no one cares about Paul. Randy Orton powerwalks to the ring and reads Paul the riot act about how he needs to have some respect and that he’s the outsider. Drew McIntyre teleports into the ring and destroys Orton with a Claymore. Security hits the ring and pulls McIntyre away. Back in the ring, Paul attacks Orton. A conflicted Jelly Roll eventually pulls Paul off of Orton. Paul rolls out and destroys Jelly Roll’s band’s instruments.

Grade: C+

This wasn’t terrible, but it’s still WWE TV time spent on a celebrity that 50% of the audience doesn’t care about. Increase the ‘care about’ percentage to at least 80% and then we will have something.

Ron Killings vs. Aleister Black

Black charges in with a big boot. Killings ducks under the kick and lands a side kick. Killings grabs a chair. Black steps on it. With the referee and Black are distracted, Killings rolls up Black for the win.

Winner- Ron Killings

Black chases after Killings, but the referee cuts Black off.

Grade: B

This was short and effective. Not sure where this is going, though…

LA Knight and Jimmy Uso vs. Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo

Knight and Jimmy take turns beating on Sikoa down in the corner. Mateo tags in and eats a flurry of strikes and a Samoan drop. Sikoa pulls Jimmy out of the ring and Samoan drops him on the desk.

After the break, Mateo and Sikoa are working over Jimmy. Jimmy manages to tag in Knight. Knight clears the ring. Knight lands the elbow off the top. Jimmy follows that with the Uso Splash. Sikoa breaks up the pin. After a distraction from Paul Heyman, Tala Tonga boots Knight in the face. Back in the ring, Jimmy rolls up Sikoa for the win.

Winners- LA Knight and Jimmy Uso

After the match, MFTs chase Jimmy into the crowd. Knight rolls in and drops Sikoa with the BFT. Bron Breakker appears and Spears Knight. Bronson Reed also appears out of thin air and flattens Knight with a Tsunami.

Grade: B-

Quick fun match with a messy finish. Seems to be a theme on SmackDown tonight.

SmackDown Review:

For a go-home show, tonight’s episode of SmackDown was somewhat slow and featured way too many convoluted finishes. The Jelly Roll segment was constructed in the best way possible, considering the participants. It’s still hard to care about the idea of Jelly Roll getting in the ring, but at least there is a somewhat valid reason for him to get in the ring at this point. The match of the night was the women’s fatal four-way, but even that featured a busy and overbooked finish. There are better ways to tell stories other than giving every match a screwy finish. Tell us what you thought of the show in the comments!
