CM Punk has been a fixture in professional wrestling for decades, and his body has certainly endured its share of wear and tear over the years. At 46, he’s aging gracefully and is embracing his gray hairs and now he has defended himself against criticism for still keeping gray hairs.
While speaking to Jackie Redmond, CM Punk explained that he is focused on protecting himself and working hard on recovery, balancing his time in the gym and in the ring. He doesn’t want to extend the twilight of his career beyond what people expect from him, and he’s not interested in simply being an “old guy” in the business. Punk believes he faces unfair criticism, largely because he refuses to dye his beard or hair.
Punk fully embraces his grays, seeing them as a badge of honor. To him, each gray hair tells the story of the paths he’s walked, the bumps and bruises he’s endured, and the injuries he’s overcome. He views his face as a roadmap of his career and wouldn’t change any of it—not even a scar. Punk emphasizes that he was true to himself when he began wrestling at 15 and continues to be himself at 46. He proudly states that he is unapologetically CM Punk, always unique and one of a kind.
“I am just doing my best to bulletproof myself on a daily basis, work as hard on recovery as I do, in the gym and in the ring, and not make this twilight of my career extended beyond what people expect of me. I don’t want to twist in the wind and just be some old guy. I think I get criticized an unfair amount, but it’s because I don’t dye my beard, I don’t dye my hair.
I 100% embrace it. To me, these grays, I’ve earned them. These just tell stories. It’s the roads I’ve traveled, it’s the bumps and the bruises that I’ve taken, it’s the injuries that I’ve survived. My face is a roadmap, I would not remove a scar, I wouldn’t dye my hair, dye my beard. This is me, and I was me when I first wrestled at 15 years old, and I’m me at 46, and I will always 100% be truly, unapologetically one of one, CM Punk.”
CM Punk has always been known for being real, and he refuses to change how he looks to meet others’ expectations. This obviously makes him stand out as one of wrestling’s most unique stars. Even as he gets older in his career, he is focused on being himself both in and out of the ring and that’s never changing.
