The Match is back. This event has a great NFL duo vs a great NBA duo, Mahomes and Kelce vs Curry and Thompson. It’s Thursday June 29th at 6:30 est, taking place at the Wynn in Vegas. My first thought, Vegas in late June? It’s gonna get swampy…
My second thought, I’m not really excited to see any of these guys play. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but none of these guys really move the needle for me. I like all of these guys, Kelce is “a bit much” for me but overall I like them all. Steph is a really good golfer and the rest of the crew is very respectable swinging the sticks. I’m sure there will be some decent golf shots, G-rated trash talk, and maybe a decent match. That being said, I still don’t want to watch. I’m sorry these guys are all too nice and have brands to keep intact. Also it doesn’t help that they play different sports, trash talk hits another gear when you’re playing against a peer. Unfortunately I don’t think you’re going to see real talk, I want to see REAL trash talk. Like Larry Legend type trash talk…

If this sequence of events happened on a private course without cameras no one would ever believe it. Fortunately for us it was on camera. Unfortunately for Brady this seemed like his one good shot that day. It always seems to happen that way, you’re struggling on the course all day then boom… ridiculous shot.
So they’ve had Tiger and Phil, Brady and Manning, Mahomes and Allen, The Match needs to get players that really don’t like each other. To me there is one marquee matchup everyone would love to see…
The Match: Michael Jordan vs Isaiah Thomas
The Last Dance brought this rivalry back to the forefront, Jordan has to be the #1 target for The Match and Isaiah clearly drives him nuts. There’s no way MJ would sign up for this and you could triple stamp that if Isaiah Thomas is involved but holy hell this would be amazing TV. Forget about Isaiah, I would love to see just MJ play golf. Given all the stories over the years of him being crazy competitive I don’t think there’s a way he could help himself from talking trash. Give MJ a group of other superstar athletes he likes and I still think he’s yelling and betting outrageous money by the third hole. That’s must see TV.

Not gonna happen. A guy can dream though right?
Maybe this latest chapter of The Match will surprise me but I don’t have high hopes. I’ll be tuning in but it’ll be for the comments coming from one guy…
