2023 US Open Match Preview – Caroline Wozniacki v Jennifer Brady

Caroline Wozniacki will take on home player Jennifer Brady in the third round of the US Open today, Friday, September 1st.

Former world No. 1 Wozniacki will face 2021 Australian Open finalist Brady on Arthur Ashe in the last Grand Slam of the year. The Dane is at her first major for three and a half years after she initially retired back in 2020 before coming back to the sport this summer.

Needless to say, it is going well for Wozniacki so far. She defeated Tatiana Prozorova 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round before going on to a second-round clash with Petra Kvitova. Many expected her run in New York to end there, but the 2018 Australian Open champion played like she’d never been away to take a surprise victory and progress to the next round.

Brady is also playing her first Grand Slam in a while, having been away from the sport recovering from injuries since the 2021 Cincinnati Open.

However, the American has been demonstrating the tennis talent that took her to the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows back in 2020, defeating Kimberly Birrell and 24th seed Magda Linette to reach the third round of this year’s Slam.

The two players have never faced each other, and the grit and determination of both will certainly make this an interesting match to watch.

Moreover, the two players’ abilities are well-matched, with Brady being known for her offensive style of play and powerful groundstrokes. Meanwhile, Wozniacki will be relying on her strong defensive skills and exceptional use of court coverage which she will try to use to frustrate her opponent, trying to make Brady commit unforced errors.

However, Wozniacki may find it hard to come up against Brady’s aggressive style if the 28-year-old is on form. Nevertheless, her experience is leading some to predict it will be the Dane who edges through into the fourth round.
