The trial for the Junior Home International was at the Cademuir Rollercoaster in Peebles, where first two finishers in each category gained automatic selection.

The JHI will take place on Saturday 14 September at Glendalough, Ireland, based on the edge of the Wicklow Hills.

The courses are a single climb and descent on grassy trails so will be fast going. The U17 athletes will race over 3.8km with 180m climb/descent and the U20’s race over 6.1km with 265m climb/descent.

The Junior Home Countries International also incorporates the British and Irish Mountain Running Championships.

It’s an open race so any junior wishing to compete can enter the race independently.

Hot Hill Racing at Cademuir Rollercoaster

Round 7 of the Scottish Athletics Junior Hill Running League, sponsored by The Crieff Hydro Family of Hotels, took place in Peebles on Sunday.

In warm and sunny weather, record numbers of junior hill runners took part in the two Rollercoaster races with U13s and U15s tackling the 3km route and the older athletes racing over 6km.

The 6km race was won overall by two Edinburgh University athletes with U20 Angus Wright setting a new course record and Emily Shaw taking the senior women’s prize.

Jessica Taylor of Edinburgh AC was second woman overall and first U20W across the line with Inverness Harriers athlete Katie Meek in second.

The U17 competition was won by Harmeny’s Dan McGuire and Cerys Wright of Lasswade with Alasdair MacLean of Giffnock and Eliza Koenig from Fife AC runners-up.

The 3km race was won by Moorfoot’s Jack Foley and Anna Meek who had made her way all the way down to the Borders along with a good cohort of fellow Inverness Harriers for the race.

The U13 race was won by Yuen Sham Lam from Harmeny and Emma Moran of local club, Moorfoot Runners. Special mention to Yuen who has now completed all 7 of the league races to-date – not a bad effort given the wide geographical spread of the races!
