RVD is feeling the WWE love, and he’s not alone. Recently, WWE has made it clear that honoring the icons of wrestling is back in style. The company has been featuring more legends on its programming, and RVD himself has been a part of that trend, appearing alongside big names like Bubba Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley, Nunzio, Francine, Dawn Marie, and Rhyno for special events like NXT 2300.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio before NXT 2300, RVD shared his excitement about how WWE has shifted its focus to celebrate the stars who paved the way. “It’s an awesome time to be a legend because WWE has come around to where they’re focusing more, putting energy on those who laid the ground before us, and that’s important,” he said.
RVD emphasized how this shift has transformed the wrestling business for him, Tommy Dreamer, and many other veterans, adding, “Just a few years ago, I don’t even know if the wrestlers knew who used to do it before them.”
RVD pointed out that acknowledging wrestling history goes a long way, saying, “To take a moment and say, ‘Hey, let’s show some respect,’ it goes a long way.” For him, this newfound appreciation in WWE is more than just nostalgic cameos; it’s about adding depth and keeping the legacy alive. “I love history. I love how it adds depth, as opposed to erasing the history and acting like it didn’t exist,” RVD noted.
He’s confident that this recognition isn’t just a passing trend, adding, “I do feel like very much like I keep saying, moving forward, even if it’s just on the royalty deals for the legend deals or whatever, I just think it’s gonna be a good year for the legends. They’re gonna get a lot of love and acknowledgment for what they’ve done, and that’s really important.”
With more legends making appearances and WWE giving them a spotlight, it truly seems like a new era for honoring wrestling history is underway.
