Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge endured rain in San Diego, but finished strong with three combined wins on Sunday to conclude the 2nd Annual SoCal Intercollegiate Championships hosted at the Hogan Tennis Center.
Pethybridge was cruising and leading USC’s Isabelle Lee 6-1, 1-0 when Lee retired, while Zelic knocked off conference rival Jordyn McBride of host San Diego 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 in a third set super tiebreaker. The duo also picked up an impressive 6-3 doubles victory over USD’s Elizabeth Goldsmith and Mia Mack.
The SoCal Intercollegiate Championships featured top talent from many high-profile programs including BYU, Colorado, Fullerton, Kansas, Oklahoma State, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Texas and USC.
Zelic and Pethybridge will continue their fall campaign at the ITA All-American Championships this weekend in Cary, N.C. The remaining Pilots will begin the fall season at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. Oct. 6-8.
