Paula Badosa has shared a positive update as the Spaniard is back on the practice court after being forced to retire injured at Wimbledon. Badosa, a former world No 2, sustained a stress fracture in her spine in Rome, in May.

After missing the French Open and all grass tournaments leading up to Wimbledon, Badosa was able to compete at The Championships. At Wimbledon, Badosa won her first-round match against Alison Riske-Amritraj before retiring to Marta Kostyuk due to a back injury.

But Badosa is back on the practice court and preparing for the North American hard court swing.“Back to the sweat,” Badosa tweeted.

In her Wimbledon second-round match, Badosa was 2-6 0-1 down to Kostyuk when she decided to retire.

After the match, Badosa confirmed it was the same injury that kept her out of Wimbledon.“The injury is the same as I have been struggling the past weeks. It’s the stress fracture. I tried my best to try to play here, but yesterday when I woke up I already, after my first-round match, felt it again.

It’s a little bit worse. So I will need a few days off and talk to my team and see what I do in the next days and the next weeks,” Badosa said after retiring injured against Kostyuk. After retiring against Kostyuk, Badosa also pulled out of the Wimbledon mixed doubles with Stefanos Tsitsipas.“Mixed is not a thing anymore, thank God.

I prefer to live (smiling). It never crossed my mind that I would be doing all three in a single event. But I also see it from the bright side. You can see it from that side. You like tennis so much, you want to be in these slams for as long as possible.

Ideally from the singles draw, you want to be there completing the two-week period the slam allows you to play. You like tennis so much, you want to be in these slams for as long as possible.
