Alongside our three athletes set to compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, we are also delighted that scottishathletics staff member, Pamela Robson, will form part of the Paralympics GB management team.
Pamela has recently moved into a new role at scottishathletics as Paralympic Pathway Manager. This sees her move from the Development Team into the Performance Team.
Pamela caught up with Scottish Disability Sport ahead of the Games to discuss how it feels to be have been selected and her hopes for the team and the future of disability athletics.
‘It’s a dream come true’, said Pamela.
‘I’ve always wanted to go to the Paralympics in some way, shape or form and wasn’t really sure how it was going to happen, so to be going as one of the team managers, I’m just so excited.’
On the athletes she is working with she said:
‘They’ve trained and worked so hard for this moment and they’ve all got real potential,
‘You can only do your best and you can’t account for what others do,
‘The wheelchair athletes, especially in races that aren’t laned races, are so tactical, and the T20 1500m it’s so tactical, so regardless of someone’s PB you just don’t know what’s going to happen on the track that day,
‘It would be the cherry on top of the cake to see the Scots medalling.’
Speaking about the legacy and inspiration of the Games, Pamela is looking forward to seeing the impact once she returns home:
‘As much as I’m going to be exhausted when I come back, my ideal would be that my email inbox and my voicemail is full of people inquiring about how to get involved in athletics,
‘I would love nothing more than kids, adults, whoever, people with a disability, to see the Paralympics and say, ‘you know what, I want to give it a go”
Pamela admits it has only been in the last couple of weeks that she’s started to reflect on her own development and achievement to make it to the Games:
‘I’m not just going as part of my job, it’s something I’ve achieved, and it’s probably just sinking in that it’s been a huge goal and I’ve worked really hard’
‘It means the world to represent Scotland within a GB team.’
