Exciting performance was witnessed in track and field events on the concluding of the 63rd National Open Athletics Championships here at Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Monday.

For her gold winning efforts of 6.71m, Services promising long jumper Ancy Sojan walked away with the best female athlete award.

While Tamil Nadu’s Nithin sprinted to glory in the men’s group. He won the 200m gold with a time of 20.66 seconds, a meet record. Previous time of 20.74 seconds was set by Animesh Kujur in 2023.

Asian Games medalist, Vithya Ramraj also etched her name in record books. She erased the women’s long standing 400m hurdles meet record. She crossed the finish line at 56.23 seconds which was better than the previous time of 56.80 seconds set by legendary sprinter PT Usha in 1985.

The men’s trophy went to Services (137 points). The women’s title went to Railways (201 points). Railways were also declared overall champions with 318 points.

Ancy, 23, narrowly missed Anju Bobby George’s meet record of 6.74m set in 2002. “The gold winning performance of 6.71m will be a good benchmark to prepare for the 2025 season,” she said.
