New protest plans announced as Man Utd fans call for vote of no confidence in club’s ownership

New protest plans have been announced as Man Utd fans call for a vote of no confidence in the club’s ownership.

It comes days on from Manchester United sacking head coach Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in charge, amid poor results, internal conflicts, including reported tensions with director of football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, and a lack of progress.

Fan group The 1958 have condemned the club’s ownership, calling Sir Jim Ratcliffe an “incompetent clown” turning the club into a “circus” and “laughing stock.”

A spokesman for the 1958 fan group said: ‘After lurching from one disaster to another, Ratcliffe comes across as an incompetent clown turning the club into a circus. Instead of best in class we’re a laughing stock.

‘It has been an extraordinary and deeply troubling few days at Manchester United. On the pitch, we are watching mediocre performances from an average team drifting without identity, direction, or ambition. Off it, the chaos is even worse.

‘A manager has reportedly been dismissed not primarily for abject performances against Grimsby, Everton, West Ham, and Wolves, but allegedly for a heated exchange with Jason Wilcox, a man with just nine months’ experience as a director of football at Southampton who is said to have attempted to interfere tactically, despite the club hiring Ruben fully aware of his rigid system. The situation beggar’s belief.

‘This decision was allegedly endorsed by Omar Berrada, a CEO with no prior experience in the role, listening to the complaints of a close ally rather than exercising independent leadership.

‘We are once again witnessing Manchester United being run by executives learning on the job, at the expense of results, stability, and credibility.

‘We call for a vote of no confidence in the ownership, Berrada and Wilcox.

‘Let us be clear: this is not a defence of Ruben or the football served up under him. Much of it was unacceptable. But his dismissal once again exposes the continued dysfunction at our club. Manchester United is now a toxic partnership where fans are getting the worst of both worlds.

‘The Glazers continue to cream money off the top, while Ratcliffe and Ineos hammer supporters at the bottom. Together, they are running one of the biggest clubs in world football like a local corner shop, penny pinching, short term, and utterly devoid of vision.

‘Over $1 billion has already been sucked out of Manchester United at the altar of greed. Jim Ratcliffe has betrayed the hope and faith many supporters placed in him.

‘He was supposed to be change. Instead, he has become the perfect Glazer shield absorbing public criticism while Joel and Avram Glazer quietly continue their asset stripping behind the scenes. Nothing has changed. In truth, it is worse.

‘We warned about this. We warned where this was heading. Too many are now sleepwalking into the abyss.

‘Manchester United is 150 years old. That proud history, built by generations of supporters, must be protected. If we do not act now, the club we pass on will be unrecognisable, stripped of its culture, its soul, and its people.

‘For Ratcliffe and the Glazers the game is over. Time is up. We can take no more and urge as many fans as possible to join us in a massive protest.’

Speaking on Sky Sports on who Man Utd should about next, Roy Keane said: “I’d go with Eddie Howe. I like him. I like what he’s done. He’s managed a lot of games. When his teams are at it, they’ll play good football. He has his critics, but I like what he’s done at Newcastle.

“He’s managed seven or 800 games. He’s still a young man. I love his calmness. Maybe Man Utd need a little bit of that.

“We’ve seen with our previous [appointments], we like people with emotions, but he’s got that calmness. The job he’s done at Newcastle, Champions League and winning a cup, I’d be happy to see him go in there.

“Do I think Fletch is the man to do it? Absolutely not.

“But he’s stepping into do it for a few weeks and a few months. He’ll probably win a few games. If they go with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], good luck to them. I wish him well.

“They need to get a top manager in to get a grip of the dressing room.”

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville said: “They should remove the risks. It does look like that’s going to be put off for another four or five months, which I don’t disagree with because if they can get a Carlo Ancelotti or a Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, a manager of that ilk, then you’d wait for them.

“For so long, over 12 years, the football has been really poor. If you think about the appointments over that time, Jose Mourinho is the only one who fits the criteria of the club.

“Knowing the league, remove the risks. Have they managed in the league and do they know the game here? Have they managed in Europe and done well in Champions League?

“Have they been successful and won titles? Can they handle big pressure and big atmosphere? They have to fit that criteria.

“You’re looking at [Carlo] Ancelotti and [Thomas] Tuchel.

“They’ve been in England, won leagues, won the Champions League and managed big players. They won’t get a bit scared if a pundit says something.

“My point is, if you think about that criteria, it only points towards two or three people.”

Social media users gave their reaction to new protest plans announced as Man Utd fans call for a vote of no confidence in the club’s ownership…

@cs150980: Only way it’ll bother them is if they stop the games going ahead, or get the megastore to shut down on matchdays, hit them in the pockets, but people pay a lot of money to go and watch the games so obviously it’ll still be full just after kick off

@The_UnitedBoys: Kudos to @The__1958. Since massive protests are announced for Feb 1st, United fans should expect some distractions by Glazers/INEOS. We may sign Baleba soon or Zidane as manager. They can do whatever they like, we should NOT stop the protests until #GlazersOut #INEOSOUT

@giles_pease: Behind you on this, you have my backing, i think time had to be given to the new ownership but it feels like we are going backwards right now. Fans are everything, the club it seems cares nothing for them right now.

@JamesWills14: I Will of course be there but I truly think we need to mix it up. All the match going reds I speak to would support boycotting a match or nobody sitting in the seats behind the goal with a big banner saying “WE WANT OUR CLUB BACK”. Big thanks for all you guys do!

@abbakarrrh: Stop buying the damn tickets, stop going to the stadium. Empty the fucking stadium.

@dylanmatejak: And when the board inevitably start suddenly linking us with players or even sign one to shut us up, just remember it’s too little too late. They sacked Amorim for asking for players so don’t let the PR spin fool you again. This needs to be it for the board now. #GlineosOut

@Busby_UTD: I don’t think now is the time to be protesting – manager change, time of transition in the club. We should be getting behind the team as much as possible, including whoever the manager is, to foster a positive atmosphere in trying times. #MUFC 🔴🙏
