Hola a todos and welcome to the CMLL review! Last Friday night at Fantasticamania México, the last crossover event between CMLL/AEW/ROH, we had three women’s matches.
The opening contest of the night was between the ROH Women’s World Television Champion, Red Velvet, and one half of the Mexican National Women’s Tag Team Champions, Kira.
Coming off her loss to Persephone last Tuesday, Velvet came in hot with something to prove to the Mexican fans at Arena México. With a hot pink outfit, it contrasted heavily with the beautiful white pearled ensemble of the Mexican Amazon.
But being powerbombed into the barricade did not stop the ROH TV champion, and she was able to get the win with her somersault cutter, Straight Outta Your Momma’s Kitchen.
The next match was between one half of the CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Champions, La Jarochita, and former AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa. Before their match, they went face-to-face during an interview in CMLL Informa.
Thunder Rosa stated that regardless of whether she wins or loses, she wins just for being able to compete in México, just like the people that have gone to find a better life in the states and came back to their homeland.
Both women went head-to-head from the technical aspect of the match to the hard-hitting blows they exchanged. Still, it was La Jarochita that got her hand raised in the middle of boos from the crowd, winning the match.
Finally, for her first title defense as CMLL World Women’s Champion, the CEO Mercedes Moné was challenged by the Chilean Diva, La Catalina.
Regardless of Moné’s fame and career, it was La Catalina that got the support from the crowd throughout the match. And in a longer and more competitive fight, both women gave us their all to put in a great match.
After hitting the moneymaker, La Catalina had to tap out to the statement maker, giving Mercedes her first successful title defense as CMLL World Women’s Champion.
