Manchester United are now increasingly confident they could sign an “unbelievable” £50m striker this summer, having now expressed a concrete interest, according to a report.
Rio Ferdinand demands Man Utd sign new striker
Following yet another drab performance in the Manchester derby at the weekend, former defender Rio Ferdinand has now called for Ruben Amorim to sign a new striker this summer, and he is particularly keen on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
“We need Osimhen. We need experience. We need someone who knows how to score. We need someone who can come and show these young strikers at Manchester United how to do it.
“If I’m Man United, I’m making it happen. I want someone who knows their way around the football pitch at the elite level, and knows how to score at the elite level consistently. Osimhen’s done that.”
The Nigerian’s fantastic goalscoring record suggests he could be exactly what United need, but the only concern will be the fact he remains unproven in the Premier League, and many top players have failed to adjust to life in England in the past.

The Red Devils are set to battle it out for a defender, who is also wanted by Liverpool and Real Madrid.
As such, Man United are considering a move for Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, following the Englishman’s breakout season in the Premier League, but a new report from GiveMeSport has revealed they could also move for an alternative option.
The Red Devils also hold a concrete interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, given his impressive form this season, but a deal for the Frenchman will not be cheap, with the Eagles set to hold out for at least £50m.
That said, with Mateta yet to agree a new contract, United are now increasingly confident they could tempt Palace into a sale this summer, and they will continue to closely monitor his situation at Selhurst Park.
“Unbelievable” Mateta impressing for Palace
The 27-year-old made a slow start to life in the Premier League, but over the past two seasons he has proven his worth to Palace, scoring a combined 29 goals, and he has received high praise for his performances this season.
The Palace star is clearly a clinical finisher, having vastly outperformed his xG over the past year, averaging 0.65 goals per 90, which places him in the 90th percentile, when compared to other strikers.
That said, there are doubts over whether Mateta would be a suitable signing for United, given that he is 27-years-old and still yet to prove himself in Europe.
At just £62m, Osimhen may only cost around £12m more, yet the Nigerian would come to Old Trafford with experience of winning the Serie A title, while he has also scored 19 goals in 32 matches across the Europa League and Champions League.
