SEGUIN, Texas — The Texas Tennis Coaches Association (TTCA) has announced the 2023 Hall of Fame induction class, which includes current Texas Lutheran head tennis coach David Mueller. Mueller joins a class that also features Concordia University (TX) head coach Jeff Bramlett and Kirbyville High School head coach Dianna Caston.

Mueller has 43 years of coaching experience to his credit, which began in 1980, while earning a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He coached the Bearkats for two years before beginning a 40-year tenure at New Braunfels High School. Under Mueller’s leadership, the Unicorns won 25 individual state championships and eight team titles, as well as finishing as runners-up on four occasions.

From 2020-2022, while still serving as head coach at New Braunfels, Mueller also was the assistant coach at Texas Lutheran University, working with Head Coach John Strahl, who retired last year. Mueller was appointed the Bulldogs head coach in May 2022. In his first season as the head coach of the TLU tennis program, he led the TLU men’s tennis program to its most successful season since 2019 with a 4-14 record and guided a women’s tennis program that received its first SCAC all-conference honors since 2017 and best overall record since 2020.

Mueller has been heavily involved with the TTCA, serving as president from 1999-2001. He also has been a board member, and was named TTCA Coach of the Year twice during his career.

“The organization has been a blessing to serve with,” Mueller said. “I was blessed to have so many great players to coach. I had great administrative support which made it a lot better. I also had a handful of really talented assistant coaches, and I give them credit for the success we had.”

A Hall of Fame committee selected the honorees from a statewide list of nominations.

The full release by James Hill can be read here.

The mission of the TTCA, headquartered in Bryan, Texas, is to encourage and develop tennis as part of the curriculum and athletic programs in public and private schools in the state of Texas.

The induction ceremony will take place Friday, December 8, at the TTCA Convention Banquet at Horseshoe Bay Resort. Registration for the annual convention, to be held December 8-10, will open on August 1. Tickets to the Friday Convention Banquet can be purchased for $35. Further information will be available at texastenniscoaches.com.
