Following the success of our inaugural Conference in March 2023, scottishathletics are delighted to open bookings for our second Athletics Trust Scotland Young People’s Forum Conference: Inspiring the Next Generation.

The Conference is free to attend and will take place at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, on Saturday 8 March 2025.

The event is aimed at 12-23 year olds, with the idea that is led by young people, for young people.

Since the ATS Young People’s Forum was established in December 2021, the members of both Cohort One (2021-2023) and Cohort Two (2023 – present) have been committed to giving young people a platform and voice in all aspects of the planning, development, and delivery of athletics in Scotland.

With this in mind, conference attendees will have the opportunity to be involved in discussions around topics that have been highlighted through recent surveys including retention of young people, disability inclusion and transitioning to university.

Central to the day will be a Q&A with Olympic and Commonwealth Games athlete, Callum Hawkins, alongside his father and coach, Robert Hawkins.

There will also be two interactive workshops taking place throughout the day. The first will discuss mental health for young people in sport, and will be delivered by Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).

The second workshop will focus on inclusive approach for para athletics, identifying potential barriers and possible solutions or adaptations to include athletes with a disability. This session will be delivered by scottishathletics Paralympic Pathway Manager, Pamela Robson.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in two 25-minute Focus Group discussions to help us understand the issues and support that young people need to stay involved in the sport, and help shape future work in this area. The topics look at specific issues highlighted through recent surveys that went out to all scottishathletics members. Attendees will be asked to select which two Focus Groups they wish to attend during sign up.

Topics: Competition Changes, Athlete Health, Transition to University, Mental Health.

The day will end with a discussion panel featuring athletes and coaches, including Olympic and Paralympic athletes Derek Hawkins, Maria Lyle, Lynne MacDougall and Ben Sandilands.

Many thanks to Roon the Toon for their support of the Conference.
