New Delhi,UPDATED: Apr 16, 2024 13:48 IST
Tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the owners for the Bengaluru team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB have found the going tough in IPL 2024 as they are languishing at the bottom of the table with 2 points and a net run rate of -1.185 after losses in 6 out of 7 games. Currently, on a 5-match losing streak, Faf du Plessis’ men need to pull a rabbit out of the hat if they are to advance to the playoffs.
The United Spirits Limited are the current owners of RCB after Vijay Mallya served as the team owner from 2008 until 2016. Bhupathi, who won 12 Grand Slam titles in doubles and mixed doubles, talked about the need to bring in the change of ownership.

“For the sake of the Sport, the IPL, the fans and even the players I think BCCI needs to enforce the Sale of RCB to a new owner who will care to build a sports franchise the way most of the other teams have done so,” Bhupathi wrote on ‘X’.
RCB go through nightmare against SRH
It goes without saying that RCB have been in the shambles in the ongoing T20 league. Not even halfway through their campaign, Bengaluru are needed to win almost all their remaining matches to have any chance of making it through to the next round.
Against SRH on Tuesday, RCB bowlers faltered big time as Hyderabad racked up a humongous score of 287 for 3. Travis Head scored the fourth fastest IPL hundred to leave RCB in tatters. All the bowlers leaked runs, with Reece Topley, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson and Vijaykumar Vyshak conceding over 50 in their quota of 4 overs.
Later, Dinesh Karthik scored 83 runs at a strike-rate of 237.14, but RCB lost by 25 runs as his efforts could only take his team to 262 for 7. RCB have their task cut out when they face Shreyas Iyer’s KKR on Sunday, April 21 at the Eden Gardens.
