Cumbernauld will be the place to be this weekend with the Lindsays National XC Relays once again centre stage.

It’s a familiar venue and this year has drawn 490 teams from clubs the length and breadth of Scotland.

Four races take place with the young athletes on first before the two Senior races which feature Junior/Senior/Masters athletes.

The Men’s race includes Non-Binary and those two races see Masters and V50 medals contested by teams, too.

We are planning widespread coverage of the event across our channels and please engage with that content by using #LindsaysXC and tagging us.

YouTube highlights are planned to be made public some 48 hours of so after the event concludes – so look out for those films on Monday to Wednesday next week.

When it comes to looking at the teams likely to make the podium, it is hard to see past the defending champions.

In the Women’s race, that is Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds – seven-in-a-row is the current sequence by the students bracketing a Covid absence year. Megan Keith led the team home last year en route to becoming an Olympian.

Central AC beat those in green at the East but it is four to count this weekend rather than three. Cambuslang and Highland Hill Runners are the West and North champions respectively.

In the Men’s race, Central are at five-in-row now in terms of gold medals. Cambuslang and Inverness Harriers are the West and North champions respectively.

It’s probably unfair to pick out individuals but it will be interesting to see the likes of Logan Rees (Fife AC) and Jamie Burns (Shettleston Harriers) in action after fine wins recently over 10k on the road – both having returned to Scotland from the United States.

In the younger age groups, Giffnock North AC have become something of a force of nature with a series of wins in the Young Males and Young Females races in recent years.

Inverness Harriers (Young Females) and Aberdeen AAC (Young Males) have been on top of the podium in the not too distant past, however.

Here’s the race schedule for Saturday . . .

Young Females: Declarations close 11.30am. Race starts 12 noon

Young Males: Declarations close 12.10pm. Race starts 12.40pm.

Junior/Senior/Masters Women: Declarations close 12:40pm. Race starts 1.20pm.

Junor/Senior.Masters Men and Non-Binary: Declrations close 2.15pm. Race starts 2.45pm
