Scottish Student Champs: Bobby Gavin photos on Facebook

The Emirates Arena was once again the place to be this weekend with a series of championship events taking place prior to our first EAP Indoor International on Sunday evening.

Students from educational establishments across Scotland were the first to gather on Saturday for the annual Scottish Student Sport indoor championships.

The action was intense throughout the day and we say thank you as always to our dedicated team of scottishathletics Officials who helped make this event happen.

Performance highlights will duly emerge via the Results but we are aware of a shot putt PB for Amy Kennedy of Glasgow Uni (Cumbernauld AAC). Amy threw out to 15.56m to move fifth on the Scottish all-time list.

Masters, Para and Relays Results

Our Masters Indoors is always a popular event and often with visitors from beyond Scotland.

With around 200 athletes involved from V35 up to V85 this year was no different with cohorts from parts of England, Ireland and Estonia attracted no doubt by the world class venue.

W85 Kathleen Stewart has made the journey to Glasgow from North Shields many times and this visit was memorable.

Kathleen clocked World Records in the W85 category in both the 400m and 200m distances.

‘I love racing here as it is such a good track and had prepared well for today,’ she said.

‘We had a party of 12 sprinters travel up the night before and now we will head home with a few medals. On the way home, I will celebrate with a big glass of wine. And chips.’

As Masters took on all events, younger athletes swarmed the track for National Relay action in the U13 and U15 age groups.

Heats and finals on the same day for these athletes helped ensure a superb atmosphere as clubs and families stayed around to cheer on their teams.

At U13 level there was double gold success for Harmeny AC. The U15 titles went to Edinburgh AC in the girls and Giffnock North in the boys,

So the podiums were as follows:

U13 Boys

1 Harmeny; 2 Giffnock; 3 Pitreavie

U13 Girls

1 Harmeny; 2 Ayr Seaforth; 3 Airdrie Harriers

U15 Boys

1 Giffnock; 2 Pitreavie; 3 Falkirk Vics

U15 Girls

1 Edinburgh AC; 2 Dunfermline Track and Field; 3 Kilmarnock Harriers

As always on these occasions we forward our thanks to our clubs and team managers for supporting this event. And, of course, to our Officials for their strong support in delivering championship events in the 4J Indoor Season.
