AEW Dynamite Results:

We’re here on the Dynamite after Dynasty, and Jon Moxley is kicking off the show with a vignette. He says AEW Dynamite has the single greatest roster of stars ever, but still can’t get it done when it matters. They keep making excuses for themselves while not addressing the real problem: no one wants it. Moxley says they will “scorch the earth” with any fake pretender before they give in.

Moxley then addressed The Young Bucks shocking return. He said he’s a “king on the front lines,” but doesn’t recognize Matt and Nick anymore, and that they should be careful before they make anymore moves.

The Young Bucks make their intentions clear

Jon Moxley vs. Katusyori Shibata

  • Moxley wins this one pretty easily, submitting Shibata early on after some back and forth action featuring some nice moves.

Winner – Jon Moxley

After the match, the Young Bucks make their way down to the ring, and Moxley says something to them before promptly leaving. The tag team take to the mic and shout out Moxley before telling the crowd to shut up. The group then addresses their actions at AEW Dynasty, saying they have some good reasons as to why they did what they did.

First, they said they did it for their good friend “Hangman” Adam Page. As for Swerve, the group said it’s no hard feelings really. The duo then addressed Moxley, saying they’ve been proud of what he and his group have done, and that on Sunday, they made their “elevator pitch” to the Death Riders. Matt Jackson then pitches the idea of the pair working with each other, and asks Moxley and the group to come back out.

Instead of Moxley, the Young Bucks are greeted by none other than Kenny Omega. Omega says the last time they met, the group pushed Omega off of a stretcher. Although Omega forgave them, he says that the group reminds them of an unruly dog who is crapping everywhere. He goes on to say the Young Bucks nearly killed the company he’s given everything for.

After some back and forth, Omega says he’ll just go fight them and moves to the ring. Out comes Kazuchika Okada to help, and now Swerve is out! Strickland flanks the group with a chair, and the Bucks & Okada run out of the ring. Swerve and Omega share a look in the ring before fist bumping.

As Omega leaves, Strickland takes to the mic and says it’s officially “buck hunting season.” Before he can say more, though, PAC ambushes him and takes him down to begin their match.

Grade: A

What an opening to the show! The Moxley match was more or less nothing, but this whole segment was great. Strickland and Omega’s pop was also incredible, and the feud set to come from this is going to be must-watch television, no doubt.

Swerve Strickland takes his frustration out

Swerve Strickland vs. PAC

  • PAC’s ambush is no match for Strickland. Swerve dominates most of this, and PAC looks to be a bit injured as he falls out of the ring and the doctors look at him. Back in the ring, Strickland delivers a massive kick to PAC, then ends it with a vicious stomp from the top ropes.

Winner – Swerve Strickland

Grade: B-

This was more or less an easy win for Swerve. Still, it was real fun to see him get back in the ring after the loss and show off his dominance, and make his intentions for the Young Bucks known.

Backstage, Hangman Page goes looking for Swerve, and finds Prince Nana. He says he wasn’t trying to help Swerve at Dynasty and tells him to stay out of his way. Nana tries to apologize for what happened last year, but Page cuts him off, and says he can’t do that.

$400,000 8-man tag team match time

$400,000 Explosive 8-Man Tag Team Match: “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Will Ospreay, Mark Briscoe & Kevin Knight vs. Ricochet, Lio Rush, Action Andretti & The Beast Mortos

  • Bailey’s team takes this one, as Will Ospreay ends the match with a Hidden Blade to secure the win and the $400,000 for his team.

Winner – “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Will Ospreay, Mark Briscoe & Kevin Knight

Grade: B-

Fun match! Not a whole lot happened here, and the theatrics of everyone celebrating the $400,000 prize pool was probably more fun than anything. Still nice to see Ospreay get some action in, though.

The Hurt Syndicate celebration begins

The group takes to the ring to celebrate their latest title defense. MVP says that it’s just another victory for the group, but before he can say more, MJF comes out. He poses in the ring with the group before saying that “we hurt people, baby,” and telling the team that they’re welcome for the help.

MJF then mocks Tony Khan for wanting him to sweat his balls off and do the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. However, by teaming up with The Hurt Syndicate, MJF says, he can “skip the line.” He then says that the pair can help one another, and MJF needs help after helping the group retain their belts.

Lashley cuts off MJF, telling him to shut up. He says it was “really cute” that MJF tried to help them, but couldn’t get the job done. To Lashley, that’s just another reason why they don’t need him. MJF and Lashley begin yelling over one another, and MVP calms things down. MVP says in order to join the group, MJF needs “three thumbs up,” and holds his thumb up. Shelton Benjamin then teases the crowd for a bit before giving MJF a big thumbs down.

As Lashley and Benjamin walk out, MVP shrugs to MJF, showing there’s not much he can do. A clearly dejected MJF tells the camera to get out of his face as The Hurt Syndicate leave.

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament continues

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Kris Statlander vs. Thunder Rosa

  • With Toni Strom at ringside, Kris Statlander staged an impromptu comeback. While it looked like she’d lose, she lands a big clothesline late, then hits the Staturday Night Fever for the win and advancement in the tourney.

Winner – Kris Statlander

Grade: C+

Not the cleanest match, nor was it the most entertaining. Still, Toni Storm was hilarious on ringside commentary, and Statlander advancing makes for some great future matches.

Backstage, Don Callis announces that The Don Callis Family is officially, potentially, looking for new members in the wake of a rash of injuries to a number of their rank.

The Learning Tree airs it all out

Chris Jericho comes out and begins lamenting his loss to Bandido. While taking subtle jabs at Bandido’s family, he says he’s got his own family. Out come Big Bill and Bryan Keith, who quickly begin berating Jericho as well. Bill says that they’re a family, and if Jericho wants to help them, then that’s great.

But, he said, he and Keith won’t be Jericho’s punching bag whenever things go sour. Jericho says he does believe in them too, and that while many might say that The Learning Tree is the reason he lost to Bandido, he isn’t mad. He then pulls out his bat and slams it into the TV in the ring while he’s disappointed. He keeps repeating that he’s not mad, he’s just disappointed, and trashes The Learning Tree set. Jericho leaves the ring, leaving a shocked Bill and Keith in the ring.

In another backstage segment, The Hurt Syndicate can be seen partying it up, and are asked about MJF. Lashley doesn’t understand why they’re still talking about him, when the group doesn’t need anyone. Shelton says they don’t, but that “the little George Costanza” is pretty funny. Lashley storms off, and Benjamin says he’ll go talk to him.

In comes MJF, who asks MVP why he’s being treated like a “punk bitch,” when his resume should speak for itself. MVP says his resume is exactly why Lashley doesn’t trust him, and that he’s got to work on that if he ever wants in on The Hurt Syndicate.

Tag team action closes out the show

Death Riders vs. The Opps (Samoa Joe & HOOK)

  • This one ends in chaos. Katsuyori Shibata appears to lock in a vicious sleeper hold on Jon Moxley to prevent him from interfering. Samoa Joe locks in a Coquina Clutch on Castagnoli outside of the ring, and HOOK wins with a sleeper hold of his own in the ring.

Winner – The Opps

After the match, the Death Riders waste little time in gathering their forces. Marina Shafir hits Joe and HOOK with a chair. Shibata comes running in to help, but Castagnoli drops him. He then grabs HOOK and hits a nasty looking piledrive to HOOK onto the chair. Joe grabs the microphone and calls out the Death Riders as “cowardly sons of bitches.”

Joe then says The Opps are looking for a fistfight, and challenges the group to an AEW Trios Championship match at a later date. That’s the show, folks!

AEW Dynamite Review:

All in all, this was a solid show as far as post-PPV episodes go. The opening segment with the Bucks, Omega, and Swerve was absolutely excellent, and sets the stage for some big stuff. Kris Statlander moving on in the Owen Hart Cup tourney was also fun to see, as was the ongoing “will they/won’t they” situation between MJF and The Hurt Syndicate.

Grade: B+
